- Allah ﷻ does all things with wisdom. Nothing happens by chance. About the creation, Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’aan:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ ( سورة الذاريات:٥٦)
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. (Soorat adh-Dhaariyaat:56)
- From the above aayah, it is clear that the creation of people and jinn was not in vain. Allah ﷻ created people and jinn so that they would worship Him. This fact, which is the purpose of life, is stated in the Qur’aan:
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ ( سورة الأنبياء ١٦ )
We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play. (Soorat al-Anbiyaa:16)
- However, Allah ﷻ did not leave people to act according to their own desires and wishes. Allah ﷻ did not create jinn and people and expect them to worship Him in the correct way without any guidance. The fact is that jinn and people were created to worship Allah ﷻ alone.
- It is for this reason that Allah ﷻ sent many Messengers and Prophets.
- The task of the Messengers and Prophets was to inform the people about this. They were sent to teach the people Tawheed so that they may worship Allah ﷻ alone. To support the da’wah of the Messengers and Prophets, Allah ﷻ sent them Divine Books. These Divine Books contained everything that the people needed to know to lead a meaningful life. If people followed the teachings, they would be on the path of success, a path that leads to everlasting life in Paradise. However, if people rejected the teachings or refused to accept a new Divine Book, then they would lead themselves to destruction.
- Allah ﷻ sent the Divine Books to support the Messengers and Prophets while they call people to Tawheed. This was the call of all the Messengers and Prophets. Allah ﷻ gave them the Divine Books as proof for or against the people. If the people believed in the teachings, then the Divine Books supported them, but if the people rejected the teachings, the Divine Books were a witness against them.
- The Divine Books were also sent to remove any excuses that the people may think of. Every nation had a Messenger and so every nation had a Divine Book. Therefore, no one has an excuse to say they were never taught about Tawheed. On the Day of Judgment, the Divine Books will be the proof that separates those who go to Paradise from those who go to Hellfire. The reasons why Allah ﷻ revealed the Qur’aan are explained many times in the Qur’aan itself, for example:
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًۭى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ( سورة البقرة: ٢ )
This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah. (Soorat al-Baqarah:2)
لَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ كِتَـٰبًۭا فِيهِ ذِكْرُكُمْ ۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ ( سورة الأنبياء :١٠ )
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. (Soorat al-Anbiyaa:10)
What we learn from the lesson:
- The Divine Books were sent to support the Messengers and Prophets.
- The Divine Books are a proof for or against the people.
- Those who followed the Divine Books will go to Paradise.
