- All acts of worship should be directed to Allah ﷻ . People who worship others along with Allah ﷻ are not Muslims. The following are some examples of acts of worship:
1.Salah
4.Duaa
2. Tawaaf
5.Dhikr
3.Slaughtering animals
6. Reading Qur’aan
- All these actions must be directed to Allah ﷻ . Muslims pray only to Allah. Muslims perform tawaaf only around the Ka’bah in Makkah. Animals can be slaughtered only with Allah’s Name being mentioned. We should make du’aa only to Allah ﷻ , as only He can grant us what we ask for. Similarly, it is Allah alone who can grant us blessings in this life and the Hereafter.
- So we should only seek blessings from Him. For our actions to be accepted, two conditions have to be fulfilled. First, the intention has to be for the sake of Allah ﷻ . Second, the action has to be done according to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . This means that having pure intentions is not enough. We also have to follow the way of our Prophet. There is a very famous hadeeth which describes the importance of following the Sunnah, and many scholars think that this is one of the most important ahaadeeth in Islam:
( البخاري ومسلم ) ( من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس فيه فهو رد )
‘Aa’ishah narrated that: Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said, “If somebody innovates something which is not present in our religion, it will be rejected.” (Al-Bukhaari and Muslim)
What we learn from the lesson:
- Every act of worship has to be directed to Allah ﷻ .
- Acts of worship have to satisfy two conditions.
- If these conditions are not met, then the act will not be accepted by Allah ﷻ .
