• There are many places in the Qur’aan where Allah ﷻ mentions amazing facts about the creation of the Earth. Scientists are researching these facts with present day technology. Today people realize the miracles of the Earth.

Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’aan:

وَكَأَيِّن مِّنْ ءَايَةٍۢ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ يَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهَا وَهُمْ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضُونَ (سورة يوسف: ١٠٥)

“And how many a sign within the heavens and earth do they pass over while they are turning away from it.” (Soorat Yoosuf:105)

Allah ﷻ describes how the salt water of oceans and fresh water do not merge:

مَرَجَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ(١٩) بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌۭ لَّا يَبْغِيَانِ (٢٠) (سورة الرحمن: ۱۹-۲۰)

“He released the two seas meeting, Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses.” (Soorat ar-Rahmaan: 19-20)

The following are some amazing facts about the Earth:

1. The temperature of the earth’s surface must remain within a particular range. This means that its distance from the Sun has to be very precise.Being a short distance further away would cause the Earth to be covered with ice. short distance closer would scorch the Earth and destroy all living on it.
2. Meteorologists estimate that approximately 16 million tons of water evaporate from the surface of the Earth every second. This is equal to the amount of water that falls on the Earth per second! The fact that almost the same amount of water remains on the Earth all the time shows the greatness of Allah ﷻ .

• These are two examples showing how the Earth could not have come into existence by mere chance. Only Allah could have created this remarkable place, where human beings, animals, Jinn and other creatures live.

What we learn from the lesson:

1. By looking at the beauty of the Earth, we should realize that only Allah ﷻ created everything.
2. There are some aspects about the Earth that scientists cannot explain.
3. Muslims accept the Qur’aan and the Sunnah as the truth.

1. Describe what would happen if the Earth was a short distance closer or further away from the Sun.
2. What do you think would happen if the amount of water that falls on the Earth was more than the amount being evaporated ?
