- Mus’ab ibn ‘Umayr called people to Islam in Madeenah. Many people accepted the call to Islam. There was at least one Muslim in every family in Madeenah. Mus’ab stayed in Madeenah and continued to call and teach people about Islam.
- In the thirteenth year of prophethood, more than seventy Muslims came to Makkah from Madeenah, for Hajj. They secretly contacted the Prophet ﷺ . They agreed to meet the Messenger of Allah ﷻ during the days of tashreeq (11, 12 and 13 Dhul-hijjah) at ‘Aqabah. The previous year, they had met at the same place.
- The night of the meeting finally came. The Muslims of Madeena quietly slipped out of their camp, and waited at ‘Aqabah for the Messenger of Allah . The Prophet ﷺ arrived with his uncle ‘Abbaas
- The people of Madeenah asked the Prophet of Allah ﷻ to extend his hand and they took the pledge. This pledge is known as the second Pledge of ‘Aqabah. They took an oath to do good deeds and to stay away from bad deeds. They also invited the Prophet ﷺ to move to Madeenah and pledged to protect him when he came to them there.
- ‘Abbaas warned the Muslims of Madeenah not to promise to protect the Prophet ﷺ , and later abandon him. They reassured ‘Abbaas that they would protect the Messenger of Allah ﷻ .
- After they took the pledge, the Prophet ﷺ instructed them to elect twelve representatives. These representatives were responsible for the affairs of the Muslims in Madeenah. The Prophet ﷺ took another oath from the twelve representatives, who promised to be loyal to the people and their affairs.
