- The Qur’aan is the last Divine Book that was sent down by Allah ﷻ and that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the last Messenger .
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’aan:
مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَآ أَحَدٍۢ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمًۭا ( سورة الاحزاب : ٤٠)
“Muhammad is not the father of (any) one of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of Allah and the seal (i.e.,last) of the Prophets.”. (Soorat al-Ahzaab: 40)
- Every Messenger was sent with a Divine Book by Allah ﷻ . Since there will never be any Messenger after Muhammad ﷺ , this means that Allah ﷻ will never send a new Divine Book. Allah ﷻ has promised to preserve the Qur’aan and to keep it in the original form that it was sent in. The Qur’aan contains no spelling mistakes, no grammatical errors and there are no contradictions in it. Muslims do not deny even a single letter of the Qur’aan. If anyone thinks that the Qur’aan has mistakes or has been changed, then such a person cannot be called a Muslim.
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’aan:
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ۚ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ لَوَجَدُوا۟ فِيهِ ٱخْتِلَـٰفًۭا كَثِيرًۭا (سورة النساء : ۸۲)
“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’aan? If it had been from (any) other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.” (Soorat an-Nisaa:82)
- The Qur’aan is the last Divine Book to be sent by Allah ﷻ and Muhammad ﷺ is the last Messenger. This means that Islam is the last Divine religion. There will never be any other Divine religion after Islam and Islam is perfect in every way.
Allah ﷻ mentions this in the Qur’aan:
الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا (سورة المائدة :٣)
“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My Favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion…” (Soorat al-Maa’idah:3)
- This aayah points to the fact that Islam is perfect and that Allah ﷻ has chosen this religion for ‘you’. The word ‘you’ here refers to every person and jinn that was alive during and after the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . Islam was not applicable only for the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , but also for the present as well as for the present and the future, until the Day of Judgment. This is what makes Islam different from every other way of life. Islam is equally applicable now and in the future as it was in the time of the Prophet ﷺ . Nothing in Islam is old-fashioned or out of date. Muslims believe that Islam is from Allah ﷻ and that everything in it is true. For example, all forms of ribaa (usury) are haraam in Islam and Muslims are not ashamed of this or any other rules in Islam. Muslims should follow the example of the Companions who accepted everything that Islam teaches without making excuses or alterations.
What we learn from the lesson:
- Islam is a religion that is applicable to the past, present and future.
- Islam is not old-fashioned or out-dated.
- Islam is superior to any other way of life.
