Why Did Allah Send the Prophets and Messengers?

• Allah chose men from among His creation as Prophets and Messengers to give glad tidings and warnings. They reminded the people about Allah’s ﷻ Oneness and warned them against worshipping others besides Allah ﷻ , Prophets and Messengers were sent to their people however the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was sent as a Prophet and Messenger to mankind. All were sent to call the people to Tawheed and warn them against shirk.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ ( سورة النساء :٤٨)

Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him… (Soorat An-Nisaa: 48)

• The consequence of this was also highlighted in many ahaadeeth, for example:

Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said,

“Whoever dies while worshipping others besides Allah ﷻ will enter Hellfire.” (Al-Bukhaari)

• The matter of Tawheed and shirk is very important, as it determines one’s Afterlife: an everlasting life in Paradise or in Hell. Allah ﷻ created all people. He will only accept Islam from them. However, Allah ﷻ did not leave the people to discover Tawheed on their own. He did not create people and expect them to automatically worship Him without teaching them first. Therefore, the Merciful Allah ssent special people to teach everyone about Tawheed. These people were His Messengers and Prophets. They invited the people to Islam and showed them the correct way to worship Allah ﷻ . Allah ﷻ sent either a Messenger or Prophet to every nation. All the Messengers and Prophets called to Tawheed:

وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا فِى كُلِّ أُمَّةٍۢ رَّسُولًا أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ ۖ( سورة النحل : ٣٦ )

And We certainly sent into every nation a Messenger, (saying). “Worship Allah and avoid taaghoot.” (Soorat an-Nahl:36)

• This is the main reason why Allah ﷻ sent Messengers and Prophets. They were sent to guide all people to the truth. Their mission was to call people to worship Allah ﷻ Jealone and to avoid all forms of shirk and innovated forms of worship. They were successful in their tasks and were truthful in everything they did. They called people to Tawheed and told them about the great reward of worshipping Allah ﷻ alone. The Prophets and Messengers also warned people against shirk and informed them of its dangerous consequences. From the teachings of the Prophets and the Messengers, it is known that those who worship Allah ﷻ alone will enter Paradise and those who die committing shirk will go to the Hellfire. This was the basic message of all the Prophets and Messengers. The Merciful Allah ﷻ sent these great people to spread the word of Tawheed.

What we learn from the lesson:

1. Tawheed leads people to Paradise.
2. Shirk leads them to Hell.
3. The Merciful Allah ﷻ sent Prophets and Messengers to guide people.
4. The Prophets and Messengers were sent to spread the message of Tawheed.
