- Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would say many ad’iyah and adhkaar before he slept. In fact, there are many adhkaar reported in the Sunnah. This lesson will look at three such adhkaar.
Narrated Hudhaifah: “Whenever the Prophet ﷺ went to bed, he would say, ‘Bismik allaahumma amootu wa ahya [In Your Name I die and I live].” (Bukhaari)
Narrated ‘Aaishah: “Every night when the Prophet ﷺ went to bed, he used to cup his hands together and blow over them after recit- ing Soorat al-Ikhlaas, Soorat al-Falaq, and Soorat an-Naas, and then rub his hands over whichever parts of his body he was able to reach, starting with his head, face, and front of his body. He used to do that (recite and wipe) three times” (Bukhaari)
- It is important to seek Allah’s protection against all kinds of evil. Reciting Aayat al-Kursi at night is a powerful means of protection against the evil of shaytaan. Allah appoints a guard to protect the one who recites Aayat al kursi.
Allah-there is no deity except him, the Ever-living, the sustainer of (all) existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes him nor sleep. To him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with him except by his permission? He knows what is (presently) before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of his knowledge except what he wills. His kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires him not. And he is the most high, the most great.” (Saorat al-Baqarah 255)
