- Jamaa’ah is when Muslims pray together behind an imaam.
- The least number of people that can be considered jamaa’ah is two; an imaam and a follower.
Salah al-Jamaa’ah is the prayer of one or more followers behind an imaam. - It is important for all adult males to try their best to perform all prayers in jamaa’ah in the masjid.
- Muslim women are allowed to pray in jamaa’ah in the masjid, but it is better that they pray in their homes. Young children who have not reached puberty do not have to pray in jamaa’ah.
- Muslims pray together when they hear the adhaan, unless they have a valid (good) excuse.
- Some valid excuses include:
- Illness.
- If a Muslim is hungry and just about to eat. (narrated by Muslim).
- Eating food such as onions, garlic or meat that makes the breath smell.
- If a Muslim is on a journey.
- Severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong wind, or extreme cold.

Why is it good for Muslims to pray together?
- There are many benefits for Muslims who pray in jamaa’ah.
- Muslims pray together, without any distinction based on color or country of birth.
- Jamaa’ah is a symbol of Muslim unity. All Muslims pray to Allah ﷻ only and face towards, the Ka’bah.
- When Muslims pray together, they meet and befriend one another. They love, know, and respect one another.
-They get to know and respect their pious elders.
– They get to know and help the poor and needy.
– They meet people of knowledge.
– They meet people who need to know about Islam and help them. – A Muslim who prays in jamaa’ah receives more reward than one who prays alone.
The Prophet ﷺ said that prayer in jamaa’ah is twenty-seven times better than praying alone.
